Stop Allegheny Energy Power Line

The Laurel Run Community Watershed Association (LRCWA) opposes Allegheny Energy's TrAIL power line.  Our association has watched over the watershed south of Morgantown, WV,  Laurel Run  flows from near Halleck to Victoria in Preston County through pristine fields and forests.  We believe the power line will destroy view sheds, potentially harm the pure stream, threaten citizen's health, lower property values, and ruin the area.

This web site provides information about the line and how you can protest against it by writing officials or agencies.

Why Does Allegheny Energy Want To Build The Line

Allegheny Energy (AE) says the purpose of the line is to prevent possible brownouts/blackouts in the Washington, DC - Baltimore area.  However, there are other ways to accomplish that: build power plants in that area; use alternative power sources; and demand side management, to name a few.

Now or in the near future, approximately 20 power plants on the East Coast will go out of service.  Why?  They are old plants that would be expensive to retrofit with scrubbers that remove polluting carbon dioxide that contributes to global warming.  Rather than retrofit the plants or build new ones in that area, AE would rather despoil our countryside with power lines so electricity can be transported from other locations.

People in the DC-Baltimore metroplex do not want power plants in their backyards.  They would rather see more shopping malls and housing developments and ruin our forests and fields to bring electricity to them.
